# Cars

Cars form the core asset of the game with Drivers, as they are required to play the game. Players can buy cars from the verified Riot Racers Car Collection on [OpenSea](https://opensea.io/collection/riot-racers-cars) or during Riot Racers Drops.

From time to time new cars are released for the game. The first set of cars released was the **Genesis** Collection, consisting of 3,333 cars. The second set of cars was the **Apollo** Collection, which consists of 7,777 cars. A third collection, called **Athena**, was also created which consists of very limited edition cars only available as prizes. There are also temporary tier-two **Artemis** cars available that can be created through [spawning](/drivers/spawning-and-stamina.md).

| Collection | Asset Tier | Released |
| ---------- | ---------- | -------- |
| Genesis | Tier One | Q2 2021 |
| Apollo | Tier One | Q1 2022 |
| Athena | Tier One | Q3 2022 |
| Artemis | Tier Two | Q2 2022 |

### Car Value

Cars have value from two perspectives: rarity and in game attributes. Rarity is derived from the model and color of the car, its position and number in the release, and the collection it is in. In game attributes consist of Car Class, Car XP, and [Car Upgrades](/cars/car-upgrades.md).

Cars can be bought and sold, and when they are sold, any upgrades that were purchased are also sold with the car.
